Hot Off the Letterpress
Featured Project:Kristen and Loren’s Wedding

This design is the perfect opportunity to show the letterpress overprint technique. Printing inks are transparent, so when you print two colors in the same spot, they appear to blend.

Carefully designed by Loren Klein, this invitation uses the technique as a central focus of the message, expressing the couple’s unity.

Featured Project:Jesse Deflorio Business Cards

Jesse’s cards are a good example of how you can print a photograph using the letterpress process. The photo was turned into a 130 line-per-inch (lpi) halftone. The individual dots make their own impression in the paper. Interestingly, the black box with the name had to be printed separately from the halftone, because the two elements required entirely different ink arrangements. Paper texture makes a big difference with halftones. If you printed this on smooth paper, the photo would have been more photographic. On 300GSM Lettra, it takes on a soft ethereal feel which we really like. Design by Jesse Deflorio.

Featured Project:Catahoula’s Grand Coteau

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of working with the new owners of Catahoula’s Grand Coteau, Chef Rachel Leckelt and Allison Cormier. Located in the heart of Acadiana, the restaurant is in an old general merchandise store dating back to the early 1900′s. For the grand re-opening of their restaurant, Rachel and Allison wanted the design of the invitations and business cards to emulate the feel of vintage merchandise packaging and advertising, which is a fitting style for letterpress. All pieces are printed on Crane’s 300 gsm Ecru White Lettra and designed by Leslie Graham.

Featured Project:Rhianna Emerson Business Cards

Rhianna Emerson is a hair and makeup stylist here in Alexandria, Louisiana who came to us for a new look.  She wanted her business cards to reflect her own personal style, which is very classic with a little bit of rock ‘n roll. Leslie of Rise and Shine worked out a design that incorporated tools of Rhianna’s trade and an updated take on the classic barber pole. The final design was printed on Crane’s 300 gsm Fluorescent White Lettra and features matching red edge painting.
