Invitation Paper Choices

There’s only one steadfast rule in letterpress printing – the thicker the paper, the cooler it looks. We love to print on all kinds of papers, including those not expressly designed for letterpress. We love experimentation, and working with inspired designers who want to push at the boundaries.

That being said, here are some favorites that look great practically every time:

Crane’s Lettra

100% Cotton. Comes in 300gsm and 600gsm weights, in three colors: Fluorescent White, Pearl White, and Ecru.

Somerset

Mouldmade in England, Somerset comes in a variety of colors including black. 100% cotton. 250gsm.

Rives BFK

A lovely cream-colored stock that takes a fabulous impression. Mouldmade in France. 280gsm.

French Paper

Made in a mill that’s powered by water turbines, this paper company takes green to the extreme. Many of their stocks are 100% recycled. Made in Michigan, U.S.A. Works great for big, bold designs with a natural flavor. Many weights and colors are available. See their website or the amazing French Sample Room, featuring awesome design work printed on French Paper.

Mohawk Superfine

No other stock takes a crisper impression. It’s smooth surface provides as nice contrast to cotton stocks. It works great for modernist designs. We like the 130# weight.

Cougar Opaque

A smooth, affordable stock that performs well on press. Moderately more textured than Superfine, it comes in White and Natural White, and is available in a variety of matching envelope sizes. 100# and 130# weights are available. 10% PCW Recycled and FSC Certified.

Recycled Chipboard

Cheap. Easy. Nothing better. Use it for invitations, covers, coasters, you-name-it. It’s wasting its talent on cereal boxes. Try it!
